the domino effect: how automation tool proliferation leads to SLA breaches

New research uncovers why 85% of companies are consolidating scheduling tools

Last month we shared 2023 research from the EMA, presented at the Broadcom Virtual Automation Summit, that found companies required 25-30% less code for digital transformation when they leveraged Workload Automation tools.

Today we’ll look at EMA research on the harmful impact of using multiple job schedulers across the enterprise, research released by Broadcom.

But first their take on the state of Workload Automation.

SLA breaches are a growing problem, with 85% of 2023 breaches attributed to Workload Automation, compared to 79% in 2019 (EMA Research 2023)

Multiple Workload Automation Tools Blamed for SLA Failures

Too many automation tools tend to incur costs, generally increasing the time it takes to automate, to report, and to resolve operational problems. .

But the SLA breach is a more dramatic cost. It harms customer satisfaction. For each SLA breach, 88% of companies report a medium to very high business impact. Only 12% of companies report the business impact as low.

98% of Companies Experience SLA Breaches Due to Automation Failure

And this brings us to the reason for consolidating job schedulers and automation tools. Automation failure causes SLA breaches.

81% of Companies Are Using Multiple Automation Solutions

Only 19% of companies have one automation tool. The rest of the companies surveyed have anywhere from two solutions (28%) to five or more solutions (15%).

With conflicting schedulers incurring organizational costs – in terms of longer times to automate, to report, and to resolve operational problems – one of the simplest ways to reduce SLA failure is to consolidate automation tools.

Automation Consolidation Planned or in Process for 85% of Companies

After going through the data above, probably the biggest surprise about the overwhelming rush to consolidate job schedulers is that 15% of companies aren’t planning to do it.

Longer times to automate, to report, and to resolve operational problems incur costs.

Of course, as Broadcom details, consolidation requires finding a cloud-based solution that drives a long list of requirements.
